Kenneth ?Ken? Fowler, 73, of St. Joseph, went to meet his Lord & Savior Tuesday, November 30, 2004 at Lakeland Hospital, St. Joseph.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:30 A.M. Friday at Lakeshore Christian Church, 5665 Washington Ave., St. Joseph with Rev. Jeff Oliver officiating. Military Rites will be conducted at the church by Coloma American Legion Post 362, VFW Post 1137 of Benton Harbor & VFW Post 6803 of Watervliet. Cremation will follow the service with burial of ashes at Hickory Bluff Cemetery in Stevensville. Friends may call from 6-9 P.M. Thursday at Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Memorials may be made to Lakeshore Christian Church or Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Ken was born February 25, 1931 in St. Joseph to Elmer & Gertrude (Stacy) Fowler. He graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1949. Ken served his country during the Korean War in the United States Marine Corp. He served on the Marine Corp Honor Guard. On February 28, 1952 he married the former Elaine Shafer in Roseland, Indiana. Ken was employed at Whirlpool Corp for 38 years retiring in 1984. He also worked as a mechanic at Meyers City Service in Benton Harbor. Ken enjoyed mechanics as a hobby as well. He was always tinkering with something. He enjoyed yard work, traveling, driving & shopping. Ken was a fan of the Chicago Cubs & the Atlanta Braves. Ken was a member of Lakeshore Christian Church. He will be missed by all of his family & friends.
Ken is survived by his wife Elaine; five sons-Gene (Jenny) Fowler of St. Joseph; Ken (Cindy) Fowler, Jr. of Benton Harbor; Bob Fowler of Snellville, GA; Larry (Deedy) Fowler of St. Joseph; Matt (Deanna) Fowler of Stevensville; one daughter-Mary Fowler of Benton Harbor; eleven grandchildren-Angela, Tonya, John, Brittney, Carmen, Craig, Patrick, Michael, Kendall, Cory, Chad; a sister-Betty (J.D.) Halfacre of Beechgrove, TN; a half-sister-Edna (Larry) Koziel of Susanville, CA; and a good friend-Don Bish of Stevensville. Ken was preceded in death by his parents.
