Wanda's Obituary
Wanda Lorraine Franklin, was born October 29, 1926 and died January 23, 2013. A beloved mother, wife, friend, and volunteer, she will be greatly missed for her kind and generous spirit. Wanda was an accomplished horticulturalist with a passion for gardening. She was a lifetime, charter member of the Federated Garden Club of Dowagiac, and served as an accredited national Federated Garden Club floral and botanical judge. Wanda was also a life member of the Junior Arts Society of Dowagiac, and sat on the Board of Directors for Riverside Cemetery in Dowagiac. Her years as a volunteer reached across many organizations including the Fernwood Botanical Garden and Nature Preserve, the Southwestern Michigan College museum, the Cass County Council on Aging, Hospice of Michigan, and Lee Memorial Hospital. Moreover, she was also a generous supporter of the Dowagiac public sculpture and arts initiative. She is survived by a daughter Hilary Kendis of Cleveland Ohio, a son Todd Franklin of Dowagiac Michigan, a son Mason Franklin of New York New York, a grandson Max, and a granddaughter Rebecca. She was preceded in death by a daughter Tracy in 1960, and her husband Harold in 1980. Services will be private. Memorials should be made to the Fernwood Botanical Garden and Nature Preserve in Niles, Michigan. Yazel & Clark Chapel is serving the family.
