Lifetime resident of Hagar Township, Martin C. Edinborough peacefully passed away in his home Monday, January 10th. He was born January 6, 1920 to Arthur & Grace (Canfield) Edinborough and lived within one mile of his birthplace his entire life. Mass of Lifetime resident of Hagar Township, Martin C. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 13, 2005 at 10:00 AM at St. John Catholic Church, Benton Harbor, with Msgr. Eugene Sears officiating. Visitation with the family will be held on Wednesday, January 12, 2005 from 5-8PM with a prayer service at 7:30 PM at Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph. Mart, lovingly called ?Poppee? by his family, was well loved by many as he served his community. Mart worked his entire life for one company. He began as a gas attendant at age 16, and ultimately retired as President of Pyramid Oil Co. (Welch Oil). The community of Hagar Township reaped the benefits of Mart?s leadership when he served as Chairman of the Board of Appeals and Chairman of the Zoning Board. He also served as Township Commissioner. Lake Michigan Catholic Schools benefited from his leadership when he spearheaded the campaign to raise funds for the merging of St. John & St. Joseph Catholic schools into Lake Michigan Catholic Schools. Mart was a member of St. John Catholic Church. Mart served his country proudly in WWII in Panama and subsequently became a Lieutenant after attending Officer Candidate School. Mart was an avid bridge player and was a regular on the bridge circuit. He also loved playing golf with his wife and friends and was a long-time member of Berrien Hills Country Club. Poppee loved being involved with his son and grandchildren in sports. He served as President of the Hagar Baseball Association for many years. In more recent years, you would always find him on the sidelines of a baseball, basketball, softball or football game for his grandchildren. In 1948 Mart married Florence Serpe and is survived by his loving bride of 56 years; daughter, Pam (Jim) Cottier; son, Ron (LoriAnn) Edinborough; grandchildren, Stephanie, Andrew & Michael Cottier and Lauren & Eryn Edinborough.
