Lacoda's Obituary

Lacoda Jefferson, 92, formerly of St. Joseph, went to meet her Lord & Savior, Monday, July 19, 2004, at River Ridge Retirement Village in South Haven where she resided. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3:00 P.M. Thursday at Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph with Rev. Jon Bendewald officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery, St. Joseph. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, St. Joseph or St. Joseph-Lincoln Senior Center. Those wishing to share a memory or sign the guest book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Lacoda was born January 7, 1912 in Benton Harbor to Leopold & Olga (Schlender) Nusbeitel. She worked as a waitress at Berrien Hills Country Club & Holly?s Landing; and most recently as a clerk at the Amtrak Station at the Depot in St. Joseph. Lacoda was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the St. Joseph-Lincoln Senior Center. She enjoyed tending to her flower & vegetable gardens and her lawn. Lacoda truly had a green thumb, there was nothing that she couldn?t grow. Lacoda is survived by three brothers-Ewald (Ruth) Nusbeitel of E. Tawwas, MI; Paul (Virginia) Nusbeitel of Spring Lake, FL; Arnold (Jerry) Nusbeitel of Stevensville; three sisters-Marie Tillman of Lawrence, MI; Frieda Fleener of Waterford, MI; Antoinette Stevenson of Tigert, OR; and many nieces & nephews. Lacoda was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Lena Gallagher; a brother Irving Nusbeitel, and her long time canine companion Snowflake.
