Opal Helen Moore

(Opal) Helen Moore, 89, of St. Joseph, was called home to be with her Heavenly Father on Monday, May 31, 2004, at Lakeland Hospital. A service of praise and thanksgiving to God will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, June 4, 2004 at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 4333 Cleveland Avenue, Stevensville, Michigan. Entombment will be in North Shore Memory Gardens in Coloma. Memorials may be made to Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church. Visitation will be at Kerley- Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, from 5:00 P.M to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, June 3, 2004. Guests are invited to sign the guest book on line at www.starks-menchinger.com. Helen was born on August 13, 1914 in South Bend, Indiana to Joseph and Opal (Henderson) Jackson. She spent most of her life in the twin cities. She graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1931, and went on to business school. She worked in the market research department at Whirlpool Corporation, form which she retired in 1969. Helen married Ronald A. Moore on June 9, 1933 in St. Joseph, Michigan. Ronald preceded her in death on November 22, 1978. Helen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Family members were her special treasures, and she will be remembered for her many acts of kindness, her gift of time, and the energy and love she put into all the gifts she sewed and knitted over the years. Survivors include: son William (Nancy) Moore, daughter Judith (Kenneth) Vieregge, both of St. Joseph, and son Charles (Mary Jo) Moore of Gladstone, Oregon; fourteen grandchildren; and thirty-one great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Walter Southworth; sister Lucille Schramm; brother Joseph Jackson; step-sister Charlotte Probst; granddaughter Leah Moore; and great-granddaughter Elizabeth Johnson.
