Ewald's Obituary

Ewald Stubel, 82, of St. Joseph, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, May 06, 2004, at Lakeland Continuing Care Center, St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday at Napier Parkview Baptist Church, 266 Chippewa, Benton Harbor. Burial will follow at Hickory Bluff Cemetery, Stevensville. Friends may call Sunday from 4-7 P.M. at Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Memorials may be made to Napier Parkview Baptist Church or Hospice at Home. Mr. Stubel was born December 8, 1921 in Solomaka, Poland to Frederich & Alwine (Tiefenbach) Stubel. On February 16, 1946, he married the former Martha Wittmaier in Germany. Ewald was employed by Saranac Machine Company, and retired from Benton Harbor Screw Company. He was a member of Napier Parkview Baptist Church and in his spare time, Ewald enjoyed fishing, gardening and hunting mushrooms. He enjoyed making sausage and cooking, his specialty being smoked spareribs. Ewald is survived by his wife Martha; his son Norbert (Jeanne) Stubel of South Bend, IN; his daughter Rita (Brent) Braddock of St. Joseph; three grandsons-Brent Stubel, Adam & Justin Braddock; his brother-Oscar (Ella) Stubelt of St. Joseph; three sisters-Lydia Stark, Alma Jahn, & Natalie Kleinfeld, all of Germany; a sister-in law-Alma (John) Bettig of St. Joseph; many nieces & nephews; and a special friend-Werner Riedel.
