Margaret's Obituary

Margaret Carlson, 91 of Benton Harbor, passed away on Friday (March 26, 2004) at her residence. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday (March 31, 2004), at St. Bernard?s Catholic Church, 555 Delaware in Benton Harbor, with Rev. Fr. Bill Jacobs, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph. Memorials may be made to St. John and St. Bernard Parish and American Heart Association. Arrangements are entrusted to Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Margaret was born on December 13, 1912 to John and Anna ( Franke) Konya in Indiana Harbor, Indiana. She enjoyed gardening, playing cards, knitting, crossword puzzles, and reading. She also liked to watch Hockey and Nascar racing. One of her favorite pass times was also bowling. Margaret spent much of her earlier years prior to retirement farming, teaching, and being a homemaker. She was the first of three generations who worked at Schneck?s Supermarket. Margaret is survived by her children, Judith (Dale) Mueller of Benton Harbor and Karen (David) Douma of Ada, Michigan; her grandchildren, Terri (Bob) Palatka, Mark (Ericka) Mueller, David (Suzy) Douma, Jason (Angie) Douma, and Pam (Bill) Fay; her great grandchildren, Amie (Mark) Tilburt, Rachel Douma, Adam and Lauren Fay, and Brady, Connor, Justin, and Austin Douma. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Claus Carlson, her grand son, Scott Edward Mueller, one brother, and six sisters.
