Anna's Obituary

Anna A. Zech, 84, of Royalton Township went to her eternal home March 20, 2004, at Caratel Village, St. Joseph. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday March 23 at Grace Lutheran Church, St. Joseph, of which she was a member. Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday March 22 at Kerley- Starks and Menchinger Family Funeral Home, St. Joseph. Burial will be in Spring Run Cemetery, Scottdale. Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church or Michigan Lutheran High School, both of St. Joseph or Southwestern Medical Clinic Foundation (Medical Missions) of Berrien Springs. Mrs. Zech was born May 19, 1919, in Sodus to August and Hulda Steinke. On July 20, 1940, Anna married Andrew Zech of Royalton Township in Sodus. Together they owned and operated Hillview Fruit and Dairy Farm in Oronoko Township for 46 years. She was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Berrien Springs where she actively served in numerous capacities. She was employed by the Herald-Palladium for more than 30 years. She was a 4-H leader for many years and had been recognized as an “Outstanding 4-H Leader.” She was a long-time volunteer at the Berrien County Youth Fair, working both in the entry office and as a clerk for dairy judging. Survivors include daughters — Mrs. Phillip (Janet) Dykstra of St. Joseph, Mrs. Joseph (Joyce) Scherer of St. Joseph, and Mrs. Daniel (Marilyn) Hurrle of St. Joseph; her son, Michael (Judy) Zeck of Monroe, Ga.; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew; two sisters, Dorothy Froehlich, and Ada Nimtz; and one brother, Clarence “Bud” Steinke.
