Melvin's Obituary

Melvin Kurbis, Jr., 50, of Stevensville, passed away Thursday, July 15, 2004 at Lakeland Hospital, St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday at Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph with Rev. Kent Meyer, PhD. officiating. Burial will follow at Hickory Bluff Cemetery, Stevensville. Friends may call from 5-8 P.M. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Berrien County Cancer Service. Those wishing to share a memory or sign the guest book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Mel was born October 22, 1953 in St. Joseph to Melvin & Bonnie (Marutz) Kurbis. He graduated from Lakeshore High School in 1971. Mel was employed by Hess Engineering in South Bend, Indiana. He was an avid Chicago Cub Fan, Golfer & Fisherman. Mel is survived by two sons-Jamie Kurbis of the US Army stationed in Ft. Lewis, WA; Jeremy Kurbis of San Diego, CA; his parents Mel Sr. & Bonnie Kurbis of Stevensville; three brothers-Richard Kurbis of Stevensville; Duane (Lisa) Kurbis of Lake Mary, FL; Jay (Charlotte) Kurbis of Wheeler, IN; two sisters-Linda Salverson of Stevensville; Pamela Moore of Richardson, TX; and many nieces & nephews.
