Esther's Obituary
Esther Redman, 90, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday August 24, 2004.
Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday August 30, at Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph with Rev. Robert Confer officiating. She will be buried next to her husband and daughter. Memorials may be made to the First Church of God. Esther was born May 4, 1914 in Milwaukee, WI., the daughter of William and Augusta (Radke) Schmidt. Her mother died when she was six, and she moved to St. Joseph, Michigan to live with her aunts Alvina Baum and Paulina Haufman until her father remarried and moved to St. Joseph in 1924. Esther was married November 22, 1934 to Eli Redman; at his death November 13, 2000 they had been married 66 years. They lived on Lewis Ave. in St. Joseph for almost 55 years, after which they lived with their daughter Beverly Sturdevant in Glendora, CA. Esther loved to sew, knit, crochet, work in the garden, cook, bake and can the vegetables and fruit she grew and picked in the heart of the fruit belt. She was a member of the First Church of God in St. Joseph, which included her father among its founders.
Surviving are her daughter Beverly; a son Jerry L. Redman and his wife Carole of Tarpon Springs, FL, sister Elsie Dick of Noblesville , IN, brother Arthur Schmidt of St. Joseph; six grandchildren ? Karen Lee of San Diego, Jennifer Sibley of Glendora, Rebecca Taslit of Palm Harbor, FL, Elisabeth Jochum of Bogor, Indonesia, Daniel Redman of Berwyn, PA, Abigail Sponsler of Hatfield, PA ? and seven great grandchildren ? Lawrence Jr., Hannah and Joshua Sibley; Madeline Lee, Caroline Witherspoon, Kerrie and Seth Jochum ? and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins around the world. Preceding her in death in addition to her husband and parents were brothers William, Jr. and Leonard ?Sparky? Schmidt, sisters Emma Zietz and Helen Brauch, and a daughter Karen who was killed in 1957 in a car accident at age 17.
