Bessie M. Hochgraber, 88, formerly of Berrien Springs, passed away Tuesday, May 04, 2004 at Lakeland Continuing Care Center, Berrien Center. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Berrien Springs. Friends may call from 10 A.M ? 11 A.M. Mrs. Hochgraber was born February 6, 1916 in Chicago to Charles & Josephine (Beranek) Komarek. She graduated from Kelly High School in Chicago in 1932 and Shannon School of Commerce in Chicago. On April 12, 1947, she married James Hochgraber in Chicago. Bessie was employed at Michigan Fruit Canners in Benton Harbor, retiring in 1982 after 40 years of employment. Bessie is survived by a nephew Edward (Doris) Hochgraber of Oaklawn, IL; two nieces-Jean Kendall of Berrien Springs, Dolores Poledna of Benton Harbor; and a close friend-Evelyn Bartel of Baroda. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband-James in 1971.
