Delbert H. Doan

Delbert H. Doan, 83, of Benton Harbor passed away on Tuesday, August 10, 2004 at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo. There will be a Celebration of Life Service Friday, August 13, 2004 at 10:00 A.M. at Kerley- Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph with Rev. Jim Gray officiating. Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens in Coloma. Friends may call on Thursday, August 12, 2004 from 5-8 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Area Agency on Aging and American Lung Association. Delbert was born to Horace and Eutha (Sides) Doan on December 21, 2004 in Pascola, Missouri. Delbert worked as a painter for 48 years. He painted many buildings and houses in St. Joseph, including Lakeland Hospital, Lake Michigan College, and Whirpool Corporation. He most recently was employed by Little Painting as foreman. Delbert was married to Dorothy Lampley in 1941, she preceded him in death in 1990. He married Caroline Collier in 1992, at Fairplain Assembly of God, where Delbert was a member. Delbert enjoyed fishing and hunting with his son, gardening, woodwork, puzzles, and spending time with his family. Delbert is survived by his wife, Caroline; children- Nancy (Donald) Sherwood of St. Joseph, David (Becky) Doan of Benton Harbor, and Linda (Manuel) Smith of Battle Creek; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; step-children- Randy, Mike, and Jim Collier all of St. Joseph, and Pam Olsen of Mesa, Arizona; nine step-grandchildren; and siblings- Ailene Wilson, Lucille Hamlett, Alva Doan, Horace Doan, Jr. all of Benton Harbor, and Alta Looney of Greenup, Illinois. Delbert was preceded in death by his parents; wife Dorothy; daughter, Joann Waldenmaier; and brothers, Raymond and Carl Doan.
