Ruth H. Peterson

Ruth H. Peterson, 93, of Benton Harbor, passed away Friday, February 20, 2004, at South Pointe Assisted Living, St. Joseph. A time of sharing, remembrance and celebration of her life accomplishments will be held Saturday, May 8, 2004 at the Day Break Caf?, 126 East Ferry St., Berrien Springs from 3:30 P.M.-5:30 P.M. Arrangements are entrusted to Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Mrs. Peterson was born May 14, 1910 in Benton Harbor to Edward & Anna (Ruess) Marceau. Ruth graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1928, & from County Normal Teaching Training Class in 1929. On December 23, 1932 she married Bernard T. Peterson in Laporte, Indiana. Ruth received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Western Michigan University. She was a charter member & past president of the Alpha Chapter of Alpha Beta Epsilon Sorority. Ruth taught kindergarten, first & second grades in a one room school for Three Oaks Schools, Basswood School, & Cowles School in Sodus. Most of her time was spent at Benton Harbor Schools & Coloma Schools. Her teaching career spanned 40 years from 1929-1969.
