Bettie M. Chacon, 82, of Benton Harbor, MI, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, went to be with her Lord and her beloved Frank and son Michael, on Friday, July 23, 2004. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 27, 1:00 P.M., at St. John Catholic Church, 600 Columbus, Benton Harbor, MI, with Father William Jacobs, Jr. officiating. Her final resting place will be at North Shore Memory Gardens, Coloma, MI. Visitation will be on Monday, July 26, from 5:00-8:00 P.M., at the Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, MI. A prayer service will also be held at the funeral home on Monday, at 7:30 P.M. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph Catholic School of Watervliet, MI, or to the American Heart Association of Michigan. Friends wishing to sign the family guest book, or to leave a message of condolence, may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com Bettie was born on March 8, 1922, in Benton Harbor, MI, to Arthur and Marion (Beeman) Delano. She was a graduate of Benton Harbor High School in 1940. Growing up, one of her favorite things to do was roller skating – she belonged to a group which called themselves the ?Rockin Rolletes.? On March 1, 1947, in St. Joseph, MI, Bettie married Frank Chacon. They together loved big band music and dancing, and Bettie also loved a party. Frank preceded her in death on December 11, 1990. She was an excellent homemaker, and tried her best to keep her children out of trouble. Bettie will be remembered, missed and loved, by her many friends and family, both here in MI and in El Paso, TX. She is survived by two sons, Vincent (Gayle) Chacon of Watervliet, MI, and Jeffrey Chacon of Buchanan, MI; two grandchildren, Jonathan and Michael; two sisters, Frances (Walt) Kuhl of Sebewaing, MI, and Helen Hickmott of Benton Harbor, MI; her caregiver and niece Sandy Kuszpit, and many other nieces and nephews. Bettie is preceded in death by her parents-Arthur and Marion, her husband-Frank, a son-Michael, and a brother-Stanley.
