Carl's Obituary

Carl Weaver passed away like a gentle breath and his eyes are closed in the sleep of death. The leaves of the trees will wither and fall and the drifting snow will cover all. Surrounded by his family who loved him very much, the Golden Gates of Heaven and Stephanie?s arms opened up on Monday 15, 2004, to welcome Dad to an eternity in Heaven. Carl L. Weaver, 82 passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family at Rose Arbor Hospice Facility in Kalamazoo following a lengthy illness. A funeral service celebrating his life will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, at Kerley- Starks and Menchinger FamilyFuneral Home, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph. Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens. Friends are invited to visit with the family on Thursday from 5-8 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Rose Arbor Hospice Facility in Kalamazoo, MI. and West Michigan Cancer Center. Those wishing to share a memory or sign the guest book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Carl was born on June 23, 1921 in Sulphur Rock, Arkansas to Thomas and Nora Weaver. Carl served his country in wartime, at age 17 years old in the Civilian Conservation Corps, building roads, bridges, reforestation and other conservation projects in Iowa and Arkansas. Carl met and married Marie Culver at age 19 in St. Joseph, MI where they lived in and around the area most of their married life. Carl and Marie raised seven daughters and his greatest pleasure was being a good husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He enjoyed family gatherings as well as traveling to see his family. Carl was employed for 35 years at Auto Specialties in St. Joseph. Though Carl did not have much of a formal education, he taught himself to be a skilled carpenter, plumber, and electrician, taking pride in the work that he did. He was a loving, caring, and compassionate person who had a wonderful sense of humor. Carl?s family was extremely proud of him and he will be greatly missed by all. Survivors include his wife of over 62 years, Marie (Culver) Weaver whom he married April 26, 1941 in St. Joseph; daughters– Helen (Carl) Frederick, Vicksburg, MI., Mary (Randy) Cooper, Arlington, TX, Betty Campos, Kalamazoo, MI., Gloria (Linus) Dias, Arlington, TX, Debbie (Steven) Homan, Vicksburg, MI., Connie Weaver, St. Joseph, MI., 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren, a brother Vernon, Jacksonville, Ark. Sisters, Jeanette, Seattle, Washington, Beatrice, Little Rock, Ark., Velma, Hawaii, a special nephew, Ray Harrison and many nephews, nieces, and cousins. Carl was preceded in death by his daughter, Stephanie Tulak, Grandchildren, Joseph Rothrock, and Gloria Garcia, Brothers, Edward, Woodrow,& Aubrey Weaver, and Sister, Lucille Harrison.
