Hazel's Obituary

Hazel Bishop, 85, of St. Joseph, passed away Wednesday, June 2, 2004 at Lakeland Hospital, St. Joseph. Friends may call from 2-4 P.M. Saturday, June 5, at Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Mrs. Bishop will be transferred to H. S. Smith Funeral Home in Caruthersville, Missouri for graveside services at 2:00 P.M. Monday at Maple Cemetery in Caruthersville. Mrs. Bishop was born September 14, 1918 in Caruthersville to Earl & Jannie (Christian) Goodrum. On April 24, 1937, she married Richard Lee Bishop in Caruthersville. Hazel was employed at Whirlpool Corporation during WWII making airplane parts for the government in the Rosie The Riveter program. Hazel worked for most of her career as a hair stylist, both at Robert?s Hair Fashions and in her own salon in the area. Hazel is survived by her sister Inez Speight of Hayti, Missouri; several nieces & nephews including Anne-Marie Speight of Nashville, TN; and a dear friend Aline Bringlin of St. Joseph. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister Ruby Denny, a brother Inland Goodrum; and her husband Richard on July 8, 2002.
