Mitchell's Obituary

Mitchell Domanski, 80, of St. Joseph, passed away Monday, October 20, 2003 at Lakeland Hospital-St. Joseph following a courageous battle with leukemia. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd. St. Joseph, with Rev. Randy Doyle officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery with military rites conducted by Coloma American Legion Post #362, VFW Post #1137 of Benton Harbor and VFW Post #6803 of Watervliet. Friends may call from 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to VFW Post #1137 or the Michigan Leukemia Foundation. Those wishing to sign the guest book or share a memory online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Mitch was born April 20, 1923 in Michigan City, Indiana to Stanley & Mary Kathryn Domanski. He served his country during WWII in the US Army, receiving two bronze stars during his assignment in the Rhineland & Central Europe. In May of 1952, he married the former Billie Denton in South Bend, Indiana. Mitch was employed by Associated Truck Lines of Benton Harbor before an early retirement in 1981 to provide loving care for his wife before her death on June 25, 1984. Mitch was a member of VFW Post #1137, Stevensville American Legion #568, DAV Chapter #17 and the Benton Harbor Moose. Mitch loved the outdoors, especially fishing and Lake Michigan. He also loved dealing in antiques. Mr. Domanski is survived by his loving sister-Wanda ?Hon? Adler of St. Joseph; his beloved brother-Theodore ?Toz? Domanski of Berrien Center; two nieces-Nancy (David) Kietzer & Karla Matheson; a great niece-Lauren Matheson; several nieces & nephews from his wife Billie?s family; and two wonderful friends-Jacqulin Taylor & her daughter Kim Richardson.
