Robert E. Newman, 79, of Stevensville, passed away Saturday, January 10, 2004 at Jordan?s Nursing Home in Bridgman. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph with Rev. Melanie J. Lawrence officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by Stevensville American Legion. Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens, Coloma. Memorials may be made to Pilgrim Congregational United Church of Christ, St. Joseph or The Alzheimers Foundation. Those wishing to share a memory or sign the guest book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Mr. Newman was born September 3, 1924 in Lansing, Michigan to Robert E. Sr. & Hazel (Beebe) Newman. He served his country during WWII in the United States Navy. On May 20, 1945 he married the former Grace B. Gibson in Benton Harbor. He was employed by Stouffer Electric for 41 years retiring in 1988, and a member of IBEW Local 153 & Stevensville American Legion, both for more than 50 years. Robert was a member of Pilgrim Congregational United Church of Christ, St. Joseph.Mr. Newman is survived by his wife Grace; two sons-Timothy Lee (Judy) Newman of St. Joseph, James Jay (Virginia) Newman of Chicago; three grandchildren-Tammy Lorraine (Neal) Pedzinski, Timothy Lee Newman, Jr., Kayla Newman; & four great-grandchildren-Patrick & Curtis Pedzinski, & Tyler & Daniel Newman. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters Violet & Margaret Newman.
