Albert Oswald, 98, of Benton Harbor, passed away at his daughter?s home, on Friday, September 12 , 2003. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, September 19, 2003, 11:00AM, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 2001 Niles Ave., St. Joseph, with Rev. Dr. Bob Bramen officiating. Burial of ashes will be at a later date at Crystal Springs Cemetery, Benton Harbor, MI. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, from 10:00AM to11:00AM, at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of South Haven, MI @ PO Box 990, South Haven, MI 49090. Friends wishing to leave a message, or to sign the family guest book, may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com Mr. Oswald was born April 29, 1905, in Grass River, Manitoba, Canada, to Julius and Wanda (Bohn) Oswald. He married his first wife Huldena on June 26, 1931, she preceded him in death in 1948. Mr. Oswald married his second wife Edna on April 4, 1954, she preceded him in death in 1993. He came to Pontiac, MI from Canada to work in the automotive industry. Thereafter he moved to this area and eventually worked at Whirlpool Corp., and retired after 25 years, in 1970. He was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, St. Joseph; a life member of the Elks, #541 of St. Joseph; a member of the Whirlpool Old Timers; and a member of the Retired For Fun group. Mr. Oswald enjoyed to golf, and he scored a hole-in-one at the age of 78, in 1983 at the Wyndewick Golf Course. He also loved to bowl, the Detroit Tigers, and the roses in his garden. He is survived by a son, Robert Oswald of Glen Falls, New York; two daughters, Norma (Syl) Burns of Benton Harbor and Joyce (Philip) Spletzer of Summerville, SC; six grandchildren, Lonna (Mark) VanderLinden, Lori (Brett) Richter, Dena Miller, Kirk Spletzer, Robert (Janet) Oswald, Jr., and Thomas Oswald; twelve great grandchildren; two step grandchildren; four step great grandchildren; six step great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, his first and second wife, a grand daughter, a step son-Robert T. Reed, and three brothers and four sisters.
