Barbara's Obituary

Barbara Joyce Eddy, 75, a life long resident of St. Joseph, and daughter of Alfred and Nina Zick, went to be with our Lord and Savior October 26, at the Heartland Rehabilitation Center of Sarasota, Fla., surrounded by her family who loved her dearly. A Celebration of Life service will be held 11:00 A.M., Friday, October 31, 2003, at Zion Evangelical United Church of Christ, 3001 Veronica Dr., St. Joseph, with Rev. Dr. Kent Meyer and Rev. Debra Meyer officiating. Friends may call from 5-7P.M., Thursday, October 30, at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Zion Evangelical United Church of Christ, St. Joseph. Those wishing to sign the guestbook or share a memory online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com Barbara was a kind and extremely generous person, who was very devoted to her family and church, and was an avid reader. Barbara graduated from the St. Joseph High School in 1946. She then attended Chicago Musical College where she received a degree in Music. She was blessed with a beautiful voice, and sang in many operas in Chicago. In 1956 she opened a Voice Studio in West Palm Beach, Fla., where she had many students and also was director of the Presbyterian Church Choir. Barbara returned to St. Joseph after 7 years to continue her education at Western Michigan University, receiving two masters Degrees. She then went to Western Illinois University where she was the Dean of Women from 1963 ? 1966. In 1967 she married Dr. Robert Eddy, who preceded her in death. Returning back to St. Joseph after several years she was a counselor at the Middle school of the Lakeshore School system for 17 years. In later years she spent her winters in her condominium in Sarasota, Fla. Barbara will be sadly missed by her nieces ? Christine Wright of Stevensville, Cynthia Beles of Sarasota, Fla., and her nephews Stephen C. Wright of Stevensville; her beloved grand nieces and nephews ? Scott Hunter Beles, Bradley John Beles, Michael Christopher Beles, Matthew T. Beles, Jason J. Beles, all of Sarasota, Tiffany Wright (Jeremy) Watson of Kalamazoo, Nichole Wright (Neal) Harris, Andrew F. Wright, all of Stevensville, Hunter Stephen Wright, Christopher J. Wright, Stephen Charles Harris, all of St. Joseph, and Stephen Hunter Wright who is deceased.
