Frances Shaffer, 84, of St. Joseph, passed away Thursday, June 10, 2004 at Lakeland Continuing Care Center.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1pm, Monday, June 14, 2004, with Rev. Randy Doyle officiating, at Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Interment will be in North Shore Memoryl Gardens, Coloma. There is no visitation. Memorial donations may be made to Lakeland Continuing Care Center Activity Fund or to Lincoln Township/St. Joseph Senior Center. Frances was born in Benton Harbor, Mich., May 5, 1919 to Paul and Eleanor (Garrison) Heppler. Frances graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1937. She married William Shaffer April 14, 1940, in St. Joseph, She was a devoted wife for 64 years and loving mother of five. She worked for Tri-County Bookkeeping in Benton Harbor, as well as for Modern Mailings of St. Joseph. Frances enjoyed collecting salt shakers and gardening.
Frances is survived by her husband William; her children Edward (Nanacy) Shaffer of Galien, Robert (Gloria) Shaffer of Stephenville, Tx, John (Nancy) Shaffer of Lansing, Ann (Charles) Carpenter of Stevensville, Janet (Steve) Jackson of Brandon, Fla.; eight Grandchildren; and a brother Paul Heppler of New Buffalo. She was preceded by her sister Melba Gould; and brothers – Raymond and Leslie Heppler.
