Benny M. Whitfield

Benny Mason Whitfield, 59, of Coloma passed away Tuesday afternoon, March 23, 2004, at Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 26, at Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph, with the Rev. Gary Whitfield officiating. Burial will follow in North Shore Memory Gardens, Coloma. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family. Friends wishing to send a condolence may do so at the guest book at www.starks-menchinger.com. Benny was born to Ollie and Attie (Wooten) Whitfield on July 28, 1944, in Hayti, Mo. Benny was a truck driver for Modern Plastics for 38 years. He enjoyed watching Nascar racing and he liked to travel and visit friends and relatives. Benny is survived by his children — Steven (Lisa) Whitfield of Stevensville and Gregory Whitfield of Benton Harbor; his grandchildren — Hannah and Breanne Whitfield of Stevensville, and Matthew Whitfield. Benny is also survived by two brothers — Wesley Whitfield and Nathan Randall; and a sister, Martha Andrews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Benny loved his children and grandchildren very much; he will be sadly missed by them.
