Mark's Obituary

Mark “Wild Goose” Lake, 27, a student at Western Michigan University, passed away Monday, July 1, 2003 at his residence in Kalamazoo. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday at Christ Lutheran Church, 4333 Cleveland Ave., Stevensville. Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 2-6 P.M. Friday at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Memorials may be made to the Christ Lutheran School Computer Fund. Mark was born December 7, 1975 in St. Joseph to Dan & Susan (Ladwig) Lake. Mark was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Stevensville. He was currently working towards a Computer Information Systems Degree at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo. Computers were a big part of Mark?s life. He was serving an internship at WMU maintaining the university?s web-site. Mark organized the first on campus LAN Party at WMU. From 1989-1994 Mark ran Repeat Offender, a local BBS which had over 600 unique users; helped design LINUX system for CPU Inc., an Internet Service Provider in Benton Harbor; reengineered an arcade machine to run MAME, an arcade emulator using the arcade machine?s monitor and controls. Mark had been the host of the nationwide radio talk show 3DGN. Mark was from 1995-1997 with All Games Network where he maintained an affiliate website ‘Firebase Alpha’ which focused on Mecha-based computer and console games; and since 1998 had been a writer with 3D Gaming Net where he wrote reviews and previews of computer and console games and conducted interviews with game designers. Mark is survived by his parents-Dan & Sue Lake of St. Joseph; two sisters-Lisa (Glenn Gast) Lake of Kalamazoo, Lindsey Lake of St. Joseph; a niece-Kayli Lake; his grandparents-Gerald & Vally Ladwig of St. Joseph; and his uncles & aunts-Steve & Sue Lake of St. Joseph and Walt & Barb Blacha of Brighton, MI.
