Dorothy's Obituary
Dorothy E. (Tilly) Engler, of St. Joseph, beloved mother and grandmother, was called home to her eternal rest by her Lord and Savior on Jan. 24, 2004, after a lengthy illness.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, St. Joseph with burial to follow in Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. On Oct. 22nd, 1913, in St. Joseph, Dorothy was born, and lived in the house she called home for nearly 90 years. Her father, Albert Tilly, owned the Neighborhood Drugstore where she assisted him for a number of years. She married the Lorenz (Curly) Engler in St. Joseph, on Nov. 25, 1937, and they enjoyed 60 years of wedded bliss, and they were blessed with four beautiful children. Dorothy?s main purpose in life was to do all to the glory of God while caring for her family. She was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in St. Joseph and was very active in her church. She loved playing hymns for the Ladies Aid at Trinity, served on many committees and faithfully served her Lord.
She is survived by a sister, Lorine (George) Williams of St. Joseph; three sons ? Donald (Janet) Engler of Lansing, James (MaryAnn) Engler of Benton harbor, and Larry (Sue) of St. Joseph; and a daughter Marjorie (Patrick) Brien of Jacksonville, Fla. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren, who loved her dearly, and will miss her very much.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Curly Engler; her parents, Mr. And Mrs. Albert (Augusta) Tilly; a brother Albert Tilly, Jr.; a sister Louise (Keeny) Jenks; and a grandson, Steven Milnikel.
