Irma's Obituary

Irma Kunst, 88, of St. Joseph, passed away Monday, June 16, 2003, at Jordan?s Nursing Home in Bridgman. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00am, Friday, June 20, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 715 Market St., St. Joseph. Burial will be in Forrest Lawn Cemetery, Three Oaks. Friends may call from 7-9pm, Thursday, at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church. Those wishing to share a memory or sign the guest book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com Irma was born on March 19, 1915 in Kenosha, Wisconsin to Julius and Dora (Schlafendorf) Salent. She moved to St. Joseph at a young age, attending Trinity Lutheran School and St. Joseph High School. She had been a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church all of her life, and was active in many organizations there, along with being a member of the choir. She met her husband-to-be, Paul Kunst, in the choir, of which he was also a member. He was born in Germany and was a well-known tailor in the St. Joseph and Benton Harbor area. They were married for 52 years. Irma is survived by grandchildren ? Mark Edinger, of Lawrence, MI, Lynn (Mark) Jary, of Grandville, Mich.; and great-grandchildren ? Hannah, Andrew, Madeline, and Tessa. She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers ? Rudy and Rheinhold; her husband Paul in 1988; and daughter Irene Edinger in 2002.
