Bud's Obituary

A. J. ?Bud? Hoffman, 86, of Aurora, IL, formerly of St. Joseph, went to meet his Lord & Savior on Monday, March 10, 2003 at Rush-Copley Hospital in Aurora. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday at Saron Lutheran Church, 510 Main St., St. Joseph with Dr. Gary Cowall officiating. Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens, Hagar Shores. Friends may call from 6-8 P.M. Friday at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Memorial donations may be made to the A. J. ?Bud? Hoffman Scholarship Fund of the Benton Harbor Lions Club or to Saron Lutheran Church. Those wishing to share a memory or sign the guestbook online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Bud was born on March 31, 1916 in Benton Harbor to Albert J. and Reva (Wakefield) Hoffman. On March 18, 1944 he married the former Eleanor Shults at Saron Lutheran Church in St. Joseph. He was employed by Richardson Office Equipment in Benton Harbor, retiring as manager in 1981 after 40 years of employment. Bud was a member of Saron Lutheran Church; and the Benton Harbor Lions Club of which he served as president in 1969-1970. Bud was past district governor of Lion?s District 11-B-2 and received the lion?s highest honor-The Melvin Jones Award in 1997. Bud & Eleanor moved to Aurora in October of 2001 to be closer to their son Ronald. Bud is survived by his wife Eleanor; his son Ronald (Lou Ann) Hoffman of Naperville, IL; and two grandsons-Alan Hoffman and Jay Hoffman. He was preceded in death by two brothers-Roy & Earl Hoffman & six sisters-Marion Steltman, Cleo Stump, Norma Enos, Helen Hoffman, Doris Bryan, and Joyce Anderson.
