Janell Sempert

Janell McCrery Sempert, 97, of St. Joseph, passed away Friday, January 9, 2004 at Lakeland Continuing Care Center, St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:30 A.M. Thursday at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph with Rev. Carl Pagel officiating. Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens, Coloma. Friends may call from 5-7 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, St. Joseph. Mrs. Sempert was born April 14, 1906 in Niles, Michigan to Frank & Katherine Jane (Goodenough) McCrery. She married Reynold ?Jack? Sempert in 1920 in Watervliet. Janell operated the Granda Vista Restaurant in Stevensville from 1949-1954, then was employed by Modern Plastics. She was a sales clerk in sporting goods at Sears Roebuck in Benton Harbor for 25 years, and finished her career with Tosi?s from 1978-1986. Mrs. Sempert especially enjoyed any activity involving her beloved family. Mrs. Sempert is survived by her daughter Marjorie J. Jeffery of St. Joseph, her son Robert I. (Doris) Sempert of Tampa, FL, her daughter-in-law Noralene Sempert of St. Joseph; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack on October 20, 1987; her son Warren ?Bud? Sempert; her son-in-law Pete Jeffery; her brother John McCrery; her sister Maggie Sonnenberg; two grandsons-Larry Jeffery & Scott Sempert; and a great-grandson-Don Kroening.
