Dorothy's Obituary
Dorothy Lydia (Schadler) Ehrenberg died peacefully on Friday, September 26, 2003, at the age of 86 years.
Dorothy was born to August and Lydia (Domes) Schadler at the family home below the bluff in St. Joseph on November 20, 1916. She was a world traveler, but St. Joseph was always her home. She attended Trinity Lutheran School in St. Joseph and was a graduate of St. Joseph High School. Dorothy was a loyal fan of the St. Joe Bears, the Michigan Wolverines and the Chicago Bears.
In 1937, Dorothy married William H. ?Duke? Ehrenberg of St. Joseph. They had 6 children. For over 40 years, Duke operated the Standard Oil station at the corner of Main and Pleasant streets in downtown St. Joe, while Dorothy managed the family home. When Duke became active in St. Joseph government and served as commissioner and Mayor of St. Joseph, Dorothy was at his side. Together, they were a great team.
Dorothy enjoyed golf, her bridge club, Berrien Hills Country Club, the club?s bowling leagues and travel. She was particularly devoted to Trinity Lutheran Church in St. Joseph and the Lutheran Camp at Arcadia, Michigan. She had fond memories of her Forres Avenue and Sunnybank Drive neighborhoods, and the many wonderful friends she made over the years. Most recently she resided at the Waterfront Condominiums, just a short distance from where she was born, below the bluff in St. Joseph.
Dorothy is survived by sons Bill (Barbara) Ehrenberg and Bob (Cindy) Ehrenberg of St. Joseph, and by daughters Jan (Bill) Metzger of St. Joseph and Chris (Hank) Ehrenberg-Guerrerio of Durham, North Carolina. She was ?Oma? to 22 grand children and 24 great grandchildren. Brother, Jim Schadler, and sister, Edna Pagel, as well as many nieces and nephews also survive. She was predeceased by her husband, Duke; two children, Mary E. Murphy and James F. Ehrenberg; grandson, David Burkhard; and brothers Marvin ?Red?, J. Edward ?Pinky?, Harold and George Schadler.
