Dorothy Anna Elizabeth Damaske, 86, peacefully went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, September 9, 2003 at Lakeland Continuing Care Center in St. Joseph, with members of her family present. Dorothy was born on July 16, 1917 in St. Joseph, Michigan, the daughter of Gustav A. Damaske, Sr. and Anna Marie Margaret Tilly. Dorothy graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1935 and South Bend Beauty College in 1937. She was employed for several years as a beautician. After World War II, she was employed as a secretary in the sales department at Benton Harbor Mallable until her retirement in 1974. She enjoyed golfing, bowling, sewing, cooking and especially shopping. Dorothy was a life-long active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of St. Joseph, where she was a member of the Senior Choir and Priscilla Guild. Preceding her in death were her mother and father, brothers Arnold (Marie) Damaske, Edwin (Mabel) Damaske, and Albin Damaske, and a sister, Ruth (Clifford) Machacek, all of St. Joseph. Surviving is a brother, Gus (Shirley) Damaske, Jr. of St. Joseph, MI along with many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Friday September 12 at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 13 at Trinity Lutheran Church in St. Joseph. Burial will be held on September 15 at 10:00 a.m. at Riverview Cemetery, St. Joseph. Those wishing to share a memory or sign the guest book on line may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com.
