Lillian's Obituary

Lillian Rose Hauch, 74, of St. Joseph, went to be with the Lord, November 8, 2003, at Lakeland Hospital, St. Joseph, after a short battle with cancer. A Funeral Service celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at Peace Lutheran Church, Lincoln Avenue & Maiden Lane, St. Joseph, with Rev. Paul Koehneke officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery, St. Joseph. The family will receive relatives & friends Tuesday from 4-8 P.M. at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Lillian was born February 2, 1929 in Benton Harbor to Julius & Rose (Schmaltz) Klatt. She has been a life long resident of the area. Lillian graduated from Benton Harbor High School. She worked in the meat department of several area grocery stores for over 20 years, and spent several years at Hall Mark at the Fairplain Plaza. The last 20 years were spent as the bookkeeper for her son-in-law at Berrien County Locksmiths in Benton Harbor. Lillian was a member of Peace Lutheran Church and the Altar Guild of the church. Lillian greatly loved her family. She is survived by her husband, John Herman Hauch, whom she married on April 15, 1950 in Benton Harbor. Also surviving are her son-Glenn (Valorie) Hauch of Benton Harbor, her daughter-Janet Sernau of Benton Harbor; three grandchildren-Neil Hauch, Matthew, Sernau, Kelly Sernau; and her special son-in-law- Gerry Sernau. She was preceded in death by her parents, and by two sisters-Elsie Lerke Totzke & Lucille Herter.
