Walter M. Eisin, M. D. ST. JOSEPH — Walter Michael Eisin, M.D. died after a lengthy illness in St. Joseph, on Feb. 1, 2003. He was 92 years old. Born in Chicago in 1911 to Michael A. Eisin and Bessie Urban Eisin, he graduated from Loyola Medical School in 1935 and was licensed to practice medicine in Illinois in 1936. During World War II Dr. Eisin served in the U.S. Army, Rainbow Division, spending time both in England and France. He left the service in 1946 with the rank of captain. After the war Dr. Eisin rejoined the staff of Holy Cross Hospital on the south side of Chicago and specialized in obstetrics and gynecology. Over the years he served terms as chairman of the Holy Cross Obstetrics and Gynecology Department and president of the Holy Cross staff. He is estimated to have delivered more than 10,000 babies during his five-decade medical career. Until 1984 he was a clinical instructor Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine Gynecology Department. He was a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the International College of Surgeons, a founding Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and a founder of the Lambda Mu Delta, the Lithuanian medical fraternity. Dr. Eisin had wide-ranging interests. He and his wife, the former Marian Kamm, traveled to more than 50 countries on six continents during their 57- year marriage. He was a founding member of the Moraine Valley Chapter of the Cheien des Rotisserie as well as the Oenology and Viticulture Club of Chicago and other food and wine societies. He was a member of the Chicago Collectors Club, a philatelic society. He enjoyed wines, fine cuisine, and owned a significant wine cellar. He was an avid golfer and a longtime member of Edgewood Valley Country Club in Willow Springs, Ill. Dr. Eisin lived in the Chicago suburb of Palos Park for more than 48 years and for the last five years in the St. Joseph area. His wife, Marian, predeceased him in 1995. He is survived by his sister, Sylvia Eitmant, of Highland, Ind.; his daughters — Karen E. Pellaton (Roger A.) and Claudia E. Knoll (Michael A.) both of Ossining, N.Y., and Leslie E. Miller (Mark A.) of St. Joseph; and a son, Walter M. Eisin Jr. (Ruthmarie Roche) of Chicago; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Joseph, at 11 a.m. Feb. 5, 2003. The family will receive visitors at 9:30 a.m. at Starks and Menchinger Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph. Burial will follow at St. Casimir Cemetery, 111th Street and Cicero Avenue in Chicago.
