Madge's Obituary
Madge Eileen Kastner died at 86 years of age on July 8th,
2003 at the Caretels Inns of Royalton in St. Joseph, MI after a
short illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30am
Friday, July 11, at St. Joseph?s Catholic Church, 211 Church
St., St. Joseph. Visitation will be from 6-8pm, Thursday at
Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd.,
St. Joseph. She will be buried next to her husband on Friday,
July11th at 3:00pm Michigan time in Highland Cemetery,
Portage Avenue in South Bend. Memorials may be sent to
Holy Cross Catholic Church, 1520 Vassar Ave., South Bend,
Indiana, 46628; or St. Joseph Catholic Church, 211 Church

Madge was born February 18, 1917 in Hartford City, Indiana,
the daughter of Sarah Ann McPhee and William Jennings
Ford. Madge grew up in the Blackford County area where she
worked at Gough?s Drugstore and the Hotel Hartford and was
married to Herman V. Kastner of Huntington, Indiana. After
her children were raised, Madge attended the South Bend
College of Commerce and was employed at Ohio Casualty
Insurance as an audit clerk from 1968 to 1979. Active in the
Progress Club, she was once their treasurer. She and her
husband moved to St. Joseph, Michigan in 1993 to be near
their son, Michael.
Madge is survived by two sisters, Betty Jean Carter of
Muncie, Indiana and Barbara Sue Kirkwood of Hartford City,
Indiana. Madge leaves children, Kathleen McLaughlin and
her husband, Thomas, of Bowling Green, Ohio; Michael
Kastner and his wife, Marci, of St. Joseph, Michigan; Marian
Nickels and her husband, Jack, of Bartonville, Illinois,
Patricia Verlodt and her husband, Michael, of Wonder Lake,
Illinois; Margaret Kastner of Lewisberg, Pennsylvania, and
Timothy Kastner and his wife, Joan, of Elmira, New York.
She also leaves 17 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and
one great-great grandchild.
