Melitta's Obituary

Melitta Rath, 99, of Benton Harbor, went to her Heavenly Home on Monday, December 23, 2002 at Lakeland Continuing Care Center-St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday at St. Matthew?s Lutheran Church, Colfax & Kline Avenues, Benton Harbor with Rev. Martin Weigand officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery, Bridgman. Friends may call on Sunday from 3-5 P.M. at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Memorials may be made to St. Matthew?s Lutheran Church or Hospice at Home. Mrs. Rath was born on December 11, 1903 in Wolhynien, Germany to Daniel & Auguste (Bufahl) Ergang. She married Johann Rath in 1925 in Wolhynien. Melitta was a member of St. Matthew?s Lutheran Church and she loved crocheting and gardening. Melitta is survived by two sons-Siegfried (Mary) Rath of Bridgman; Edwin (Erika) Rath of Baroda; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters-Alma (Adolph) Schmidt & Elsa (Edmund) Krause, both of Canada; two brothers-Reinhold Ergang of Germany; and Edwin Ergang of Canada. She was preceded in death by her husband Johann on July 10, 1991; a daughter Herta Rath in 1926; and a son Herbert Rath on July 1, 2001.
