Robert's Obituary

Robert Small, 77, of St. Joseph, passed away Thursday, December 5, 2002, at Lakeland Specialty Hospital ? Berrien Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 211 Church St., St. Joseph, with Father Rob Johansen officiating. Burial will follow in Lincoln Township Cemetery with military rites conducted . Friends may call on Monday from 4-7 P.M. at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Memorials may be made to the Leukemia Foundation . Those wishing to send a condolence may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com Robert was born on May 20, 1925 in Chicago, IL to Mary Lou (Burns) and Albert Small. On June 16, 1951 he married Ruth Holub. He served his country in the US Navy on the USS Stevens Destroyer during WWII. He was a Chicago Police Officer for 12 years, Vice President of Inter City Bank – retiring after 23 years in 1987. He was a member of the Stevensville American Legion. Robert will be fondly remembered as an avid fisherman and jokester. Robert is survived by one son ? Robert Small of St. Joseph, a daughter ? Becke (David) Beatty, of Benton Harbor; and 2 granddaughters ? Nicole and Jordan Beatty. Preceded by his wife Ruth, his sister Mary Lou Jones, and brother Albert ?Bud? Small.
