James's Obituary

James S. Wardlaw, 77, Sister Lakes, passed away unexpectedly, Friday, July 7 at Lakeland Hospital, St. Joseph, surrounded by his family. Jim was born in New York City, New York, on October 13, 1935 to John C. and Marchess E. Wardlaw. He was an avid golfer, sailor and boater, serving as President of the Dewey Lake Property Owners for two years. He was retired from Continental Can Company, St. Joseph, in 1990 then as founder of Grassland Materials Company in 1998. He was known for his political opinions often seen in the pages of the local papers. He was active in the Michigan Food Processors, serving as President of the Supplymen’s Association in 1979 and 1980. He was a graduate of Purdue University and a member Phi Kappa Psi fraternity and the Dowagiac Elks Club #889 where he instructed Junior Golf for several years. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Cynthia and his son, James H. Wardlaw (Vicki), of Pullman, daughter, Melissa Harmening (Edward) of Chicago, and Rebecca Boyer (Michael) of Wilmette and grandchildren, Christopher Wardlaw, Zachary Wardlaw, Sarah Harmening, Madeline Harmening, Michael Boyer and Matthew Boyer, brother John C. Wardlaw, Jr. (Janet) , nephew, John C Wardlaw, of Spencer, Indiana, and niece, Lynne Wardlaw of Sunapee, NH. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant daughter. A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Yazel-Clark Chapel, Starks Family Funeral Home, Dowagiac, Tuesday, July 10, with remembrances at 6:30 p.m. A funeral will be held in Indianapolis on Thursday, July 12, at Crown Hill Cemetery 2:00 pm. Cremation has taken place. Memorial contributions in his name may be directed to the food pantry at First Christian Church, Dowagiac.
