Marie R. Mueller

Marie Rose Mueller, 84, of St. Joseph, died Sunday, July 28, 2002, at Lakeland Hospital, St. Joseph. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, July 31, 2002, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Joseph. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., on today at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., Joseph. Liturgical Prayers will be recited at 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church. Those wishing to share a memory on line may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com Marie was born July 27, 1918, on the family farm in Dowagiac, to Alfred & Rose (Stevens) Schilling. She graduated from Eau Claire High School, and attended Twin City Business College. She was employed as a secretary and bookkeeper during the 1930?s and 1940?s at the Indiana and Michigan Electric Co. and People?s Coal and Oil Co. She married Joseph W. Mueller on February 20, 1945 at St. John?s Catholic Church in Benton Harbor. She lived in Columbia, S.C., for a time during World War II while her husband served in the U.S. Army. While there, she worked for Crowson Stone Printing Co. Marie was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She enjoyed gardening, and was a wonderful cook and baker. She was devoted to her husband, daughters, and grandchildren who will miss her warm smile and quiet strength. Survivors include her husband Joseph; two daughters ? Catherine (Patrick) Hirzel of Battle Creek, Mich., and Patricia (Robert) Dillon of Rochester Hills, Mich.; four grandchildren ? Kevin and Timothy Hirzel, and Brian and Kathleen Dillon; one sister, Louise Holle of Eau Claire; two brothers ? Howard (Erika) Schilling of Dowagiac, and Ralph (Emma Jean) Schilling of Eau Claire; sister-in-laws ? Sr. Catherine Mueller of Los Angeles, and Elizabeth (Albert) Jensen of Prescott, Ariz.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother Fred.
