Thomas's Obituary
Thomas A. Johnson, 60, of Benton Harbor, went to meet his
Lord & Savior at home, following a short illness. A
Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 P.M.
Thursday, May 8, 2003 at the Christian Reformed Church of
St. Joseph, 3275 Washington Ave., with Dr. Philip DeJonge
officiating. Burial will follow at North Shore Memory
Gardens, Hagar Shores with military rites conducted by
Coloma American Legion Post #362, VFW Post #1137 of
Benton Harbor & VFW Post #6803 of Watervliet. Friends
may call on Wednesday from 5-9 P.M. at Starks &
Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St.
Joseph. Memorials may be made to Hospice at Home. Those

Tom was born on February 25, 1943 in Benton Harbor to
James & Pearl (Dillard) Johnson. He served his country in
the United States Marine Corp. during the Vietnam War. On
August 8, 1971 he married the former Martha Underwood in
Benton Harbor. Tom was formerly employed by Central
Transport of New Buffalo; and by USF Holland from 1993
until his health forced his retirement earlier this year. Tom
was a member of the Christian Reformed Church of St.
Joseph, Teamsters Local 364, and was an avid
sportsman-enjoying Hunting, Softball, Baseball, Football,
Golf, and NASCAR.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife Martha; two
daughters-Becky Menter of Glendale, AZ; Cheri Smith of
Coloma, his son-Bob (Cheryl) Johnson of Coloma; three
grandchildren-Danielle E. Rogers, Paul Johnson, Brett
Johnson; one brother-James (Tina) Johnson, Jr. of Watervliet;
two sisters-Renee (Charles) Furlan of Hartford; & Shirley
(Roy) Bailey of Hartford. Tom was preceded in death by his
parents, and by a sister Dorothy Arant in 1975.
