Marian's Obituary

Marian’s life began on April 10, 1916 in Dowagiac, the daughter of Clarence and Eva (Henwood) Paul. She attended school in Dowagiac and worked for James Heddon and Sons as a young lady. On May 25, 1939, Marian was united in marriage to Harland C. Wicks at the Federated Church in Dowagiac. In 1950, they opened Wicks’ Apple House selling apples, potatoes, and cider on the front lawn of the family farmhouse. As the business grew, Marian ran the pie making day in the Apple House Bakery. She was a member of the Dowagiac Junior Arts and loved playing tennis and golf. Her loving family includes her children Paul (Suzanne) Wicks of Dowagiac, Judy (Dan) Ries of South Haven, and Greg (Carole) Wicks of Kalamazoo, grandchildren Kimberly (Ron) Montgomery of Sister Lakes, Michelle (Brian) McManus of Portage, Bradley ( Val) Ries of Colorado, Adam (Brittney) Ries of Battle Creek, Nicole Wicks of Kalamazoo and Brett (Ryanne) Wicks of South Carolina, great grandchildren Kayla Montgomery, Ava Ries, Braden Ries, Katie McManus and Christopher McManus and great great grandson Mason S. Labencki. Marion passed away on Tuesday July 3, 2012 at Forest Glen Assisted Living in Dowagiac. She is preceded in death by her husband Harland in 2003, sisters Lucille Freeland and Marjorie Durren and brother William “Hootie” Paul. Her family will gather with friends at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday July 19, 2012 at Silver Creek United Methodist Church for her memorial service led by Pastor Heather McDougal. Yazel & Clark Chapel is serving the family. Memorial contributions in her name may be directed to the Silver Creek United Methodist Church.
