Juniata's Obituary

Juniata V. Cupp, 90, of St. Joseph, died Thursday, June 05, 2003 at Golden Place, St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Rev. Marlo Fritzke officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday from 2-4 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Juniata V. Cupp Scholarship Fund for the Arts. Those wishing to share a memory or sign the guest book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Mrs. Cupp was born on March 3, 1913 in Chicago, IL. Her family moved to Southwestern Michigan when she was 13, and she graduated from New Troy High School in 1929. Juniata worked as an RN at the former St. Joseph Sanitarium, and Mercy Hospital in Benton Harbor. She was best known for her talent as an artist and her paintings of the dunes and the piers. Juniata enjoyed painting ever since she was a child. She was active as an exhibiter and an organizer of the St. Joseph Art Fair for over 35 years, and a member of the St. Joseph Art Association. Juniata was the founder and chairman of the Shoreham Village Art Fair, past president of the Berrien County Art Guild, and a member of the National Water Color Society. She was a member of the Twin City Camera Club for many years. Juniata was instrumental and very active in the fight to save the dunes in Grand Mere. Mrs. Cupp is survived by her close friend and caregiver-Douglas (Michelle) Anderson of Bridgman, and their sons-Cuyler & Jarrett Anderson; and a nephew-Frank (Jo) Cupp of Stevensville. She was preceded in death by her husband-Frank ?Bob? Cupp on October 8, 1978, and by a brother-William Everett Ream.
