Robert's Obituary

Robert L. Riegel, 82, of St. Joseph, formerly of Stevensville, went home to meet his Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 31, 2002, at his home. Celebration of Life Services will be held on Tuesday, September 3, 10:00AM at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Pastor Jeff Oliver officiating. Burial will follow at Hickory Bluff Cemetery, Stevensville. Friends may call from 5:00 until 8:00PM on Monday, Sept. 2, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Lakeshore Christian Church or Hospice At Home of Stevensville. Friends wishing to sign the guestbook on line may do so at www.starks-menchinger .com Mr. Riegel was born in Malta, Ohio on May 28, 1920 to Everett and Alma (Leavell) Riegel. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during WWII. On December 21, 1946 in RedKey, IN, he married Ida May Landess. The family moved from Decatur, IN to MI in 1964. Mr. Riegel had been a baker and decorator at many local bakeries, and retired from Hilltop Bakery in 1985. He was a member of the Lakeshore Christian Church, and was an avid woodworker and gardener. Mr. Riegel is survived by his wife, Ida May; two sons, Larry Riegel of Benton Harbor and Carl (Julie) Riegel of Stevensville; two daughters, Tamara (Kirk) Oisten of Allegan and Rhonda Riegel of Albuquerque, New Mexico; two grandchildren, Julia May (Jordan Rudolph) Riegel and Tony Riegel; great grandson, Nathaniel Robert; brother, Ronald (Jean) Riegel of Severna Park, Maryland; and a sister-in-law, Coy Riegel of Angola, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Bruce Riegel, and a sister, Lois Smail.
