Ilah's Obituary

Ilah Yund, 95 of Benton Harbor, died at her home Thursday February 6, 2003. Visitation will be Sunday 2 – 5pm, at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00am, Monday, at First United Methodist Church, 3003 Leco Ct. St. Joseph. Officiating will be Rev. Wade Panse. Burial will follow at Hamilton Cemetery in Decatur MI. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church where she was a member. Friend wishing to send a Condolence message on line may do so at the family guest book at www.starks-menchinger.com She was born on March 19,1907 to Amos and Eva (Conklin) Vanderhoof in Decatur, MI. She graduated from Decatur High School in 1925, then attended Western State Teachers College and earned a Life Certificate. On November 27, 1927 she married Kenneth Yund in South Bend IN. She also attended Western Michigan College where she earned a Bachelor?s of Science degree. She started teaching in 1927 in the rural schools of Van Buren County and then taught for 23 years as a first grade teacher in the Decatur Public Schools until she retired in 1973. She was a member of Retired For Fun, Berrien Co. Retired School Personnel, Treasurer of Josephine Morton House Memorial, Widow/Widowers and Treasurer of Emblem Club #122. Survived by Joyce Conigilio of Benton Harbor, MI, two great nieces Kimberly Weldy and Kelly (Matt) Kern. Preceded in death by her husband Kenneth in July of 1988, a niece Judith Weldy in December of 1978 and a nephew David Vanderhoof in May of 1974.
