Harold E. Hartman, 68, of Benton Harbor, died suddenly Thursday, June 13, 2002, in Benton Harbor. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, at Peace Lutheran Church, 2590 Lincoln Ave., St. Joseph, with Rev. Franz Brandenburg officiating. Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens, Coloma, with military rites conducted. Friends may call from 3 to 6 P.M., Sunday, at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Memorials may be made to Peace Lutheran Church. Friends wishing to sign the guestbook on line may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com Harold Hartman was born on January 5, 1934 to Leslie and Anna (Schramm) Hartman in Benton Harbor. Mr. Hartman graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1952 and married Wanda Barre October 25, 1958, in Shiner Texas. Mr. Hartman was a career Air Force Officer, retiring as a Major in 1973. He served 12 years as a Berrien County Deputy Sheriff and in later years was a self-employed civil process server. He was a member of VFW post 1137, FOP 99, and Air Force Association. He was active at his church, enjoyed golf and was always helping others. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Wanda; three children ? Deborah Jaggers and Dean (fianc?e Susan Smykowski) Hartman of St. Joseph, and Donna (Glenn) Kruithof, of Palm Coast, FL; six grandchildren ? Brian and Sarah Jaggers, Greg Anderson, Andrew, Emily and Stephanie Kruithof. He is preceded by his parents, Leslie C. and Anna Hartman, three brothers ? Leslie, Bernard, and Milton Hartman, and a sister ? Marion Peters.
