Nelson's Obituary
Nelson ?Bud? Goodwin, 79, of St. Joseph, went to meet his
Lord & Savior, Saturday, February 15, 2003, at his residence.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 A.M.
Tuesday at the First Assembly of God, 3084 Niles Rd., St.
Joseph, with Pastor Dan Miller & Pastor James Biffert
officiating. Burial will follow at North Shore Memory
Gardens, Hagar Shores. Friends may call from 5-9 P.M.
Monday at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650
Niles Rd., St. Joseph. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be
made to the First Assembly of God or Hospice at Home.

Bud was born on August 19, 1923 in Benton Harbor to Arthur
& Hazel (Randall) Goodwin. He graduated from Benton
Harbor High School in the Class of 1941. Bud served his
country during WWII in the Quartermaster Corp. 13th Air
Force in the Pacific Islands. On May 14, 1949 he married the
former Jeanne Odell in St. Joseph. Bud retired as Lieutenant,
on June 30, 1982, after 35 years with the St. Joseph Police
Department. While with the department, he was the
commander of the Harbor Patrol for 9 years. After his
retirement, Bud worked as a courier for Inter-City &
Shoreline Bank from 1986-2000. Bud was an avid hunter,
fisherman, sail boater, & camper.
Mr. Goodwin is survived by his wife Jeanne; three
children-Jack (Susan) Goodwin of St. Joseph; Sally (Russ)
Stine of Bridgman; Bruce Goodwin of Stevensville; six
grandchildren-Jon Goodwin, Sara (Rob) Mead, Kari (Odie)
Williams, Lindsay Tomancik, Aubrey Tomancik, Michael
Goodwin; five great-grandchildren-James Goodwin, Jon Lee
Goodwin, Logan Mead, Madilyn Williams, and Laney Mead.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers-Jack
Goodwin, Randall Goodwin; and a half-brother-Art Akins.
Bud loved and enjoyed his family. He was lovingly known a
?Boppa? to all of his grandchildren & great-grandchildren.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
