Hilda's Obituary
Hilda Klan, 100, of Portage, Michigan, formerly of Benton Harbor, passed away Tuesday, May 21,
2002 at Park Place Living Center in Kalamazoo. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00
P.M. Friday at the First Assembly of God, 3084 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Pastor Dan Miller
officiating. Burial will follow in Crystal Springs Cemetery. Friends may call at the Church beginning
at Noon on Friday. Memorials may be made to the First Assembly of God of which she was a member
or to Community Advocates for the Developmentally Disabled. Those wishing to share a memory on

Family Funeral Home-St. Joseph.
Mrs. Klan was born on March 25, 1902 in Germany to Christian & Wilhelmina (Rock) Menchinger.
As a child, she and her family moved to Canada. On December 24, 1919 she married Roy Klan in
Winnipeg, Canada. They later moved to the Benton Harbor area where together they operated a fruit
farm in Bainbridge Township.
Hilda is survived by her daughter-Ruth (Edward) Ossewaarde of Portage, MI; two grandsons-Scott
(Karen) Ossewaarde & Steven (Susan) Ossewaarde; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded
in death by her husband Roy on October 28, 1960, her son Edward Klann on November 3, 1988, her
granddaughter-Kaye Ossewaarde on September 12, 1993, and by two sisters and a brother.
