Frances V. Sparks, 85, of Benton Harbor, died Saturday, March 23, 2002 at Lakeland Hospital-St. Joseph. A service celebrating her life will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens, Coloma. Friends may call on Tuesday from 5-8 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the Coloma Senior Citizens Center Building Fund. Mrs. Sparks was born on August 17, 1916 in Whitehall, Michigan to John & May (Dawson) Brant. On July 27, 1935 she married Charles ?Shorty? Sparks in St. Joseph. Frances was employed by Montgomery Wards in St. Joseph, A&P Grocery in Benton Harbor and for many years owned & operated Tres Chic Beauty Salon on Broad St. in downtown St. Joseph. Mrs. Sparks was a member of the Coloma Senior Citizens Center, and also loved oil painting, quilting, and reading. Mrs. Sparks is survived by her daughter-Charlene (Tom) Renner of Watervliet; her daughter-in-law-Wanda Sparks of Judsonia, AK; ten grandchildren, forty great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren; her sister-Edna Sonnichsen of Benton Harbor; two brother-in laws-Tom Sparks of St. Joseph, Earl Sparks of Clarkston, MI; and a sister in law-Faye Sparks. Frances was preceded in death by her parents; her husband-“Shorty” in 1984; her son Philip in 1997; and by two brothers & a sister
