Rose's Obituary

Rose Monte, 90, of St. Joseph died Tuesday, November 26, 2002, at Lakeland Specialty hospital in Berrien Center. She was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Visitation will be from 4:00 ? 9:00 pm Friday at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Road St. Joseph; with a Rosary recited at 7:00 PM, Friday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John?s Catholic Church, Benton Harbor, Saturday at 10:30 AM with burial following in North Shore Memory Garden. In lieu of flowers Memorials may be made to the Twin Cities Area Catholic School Fund or Jennifer Monte Memorial Scholarship Fund. Friends wishing to send a condolence may do so in the family guest book at www.starks-menchinger.com. She was born on January 19, 1912 to Charles and Gloria (Mancuso) Caldrone in Allegan, Michigan. On June 6, 1931 she married her husband Anthony Monte and together they owned and operated Monte Packaging Company in Riverside until 1990. She was active in St. John?s Altar Society, Son?s of Italy, Italian ? American Club, Widow and Widower Club, Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, North Berrien Senior Center and St. Joseph-Lincoln Township Senior Center. She is survived by a son Sam (Connie) Monte of Riverside, Mich., a daughter Antoinette Gagliardo of Clarendon Hills, IL; 6 grandchildren – Tony (Jackie) Monte, John (Leah) Monte, Patricia (Tim) Foley, Christine (Paul) Justema, Kathleen (Michael) Graef, Elizabeth (Michael) Whelan; 17 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law – Rose Monte and Lena (Sam) Azzarolo, and many nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband Tony on July 4, 1991; a granddaughter Jennifer Monte, sister Mary Lemley, three brothers – Frank, Ted, and Tony Caldrone.
