Vail William Hanley -St. Joseph, MI Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Joseph. Officiating the services will be Father Robert Johansen. Visitation will be from 3:00 ? 5:00 and 7:00 ? 9:00 with a Prayer services at 7:00 PM Friday at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Road St. Joseph Michigan. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery in St. Joseph. Memorials may be made to Hospice at Home, Birthright or The Readiness Center. God blessed us with the gift of Vail William Hanley for almost 87 years and called him home on the afternoon of Tuesday, February 19th. Vail began his family adventure more than 60 years ago when he married Shirley Grace Holden. The marriage was enriched with six children, twenty-six grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren. Vail?s passions were his family, his faith, and his work. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend ? ready and willing to give advice, help, or encouragement. He never forced his opinions on his family but lead by example. Even though he is no longer on this earth, the lessons and love he left us will keep him alive in the hearts of his family & friends. Vail was born on March 16, 1915 in Chicago to William & Lily (Vail) Hanley. He graduated from St. Joseph Catholic High School and then from St. Louis University in 1938. Later he attended Northwestern University Graduate School. Vail was the Vice-President of Sales for the family business, Vail Rubber Works, St. Joseph, from which he retired in 1986 after more than 65 years of service. He continued to serve on the board of directors after his retirement. Vail is survived by his wife Shirley; daughter Patricia (Joseph) Harding, St. Joseph; daughter Kathy (Jim) Teunis, Jenison, MI; daughter Mary (William) Shine, St. Joseph; daughter Chris (Pat) Phelan, Weston, FL; daughter Beth (Jim Jr.) Mandarino, St. Joseph; son Mark (Margaret) Hanley, Dover, DE; grandchildren Angela Harding-Poll, Kerri Harding, Vail Harding, Allen Harding, Kim Allard, Melissa Gibson, Jennifer Merlo, Sarah Teunis, Casey Teunis, Mary Elizabeth (Mark) Huffman, William Benjamin (Jody) Shine, Molly Shine, Jacob Shine, Matthew Shine, Joel Shine, Kathryne Shine, Breanne Shine, Marty Phelan, Jeff Phelan, Greg Phelan, Chad Mandarino, Jamie Mandarino, Tony Mandarino, Josh Mandarino, Elizabeth Hanley, Amy Hanley, and 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph, and sister, Mary Hanley Fellows.
