Elsie's Obituary

Elsie H. Pavlides, 78, of St. Joseph, went home to meet our Lord and Savior on Wednesday, November 21, 2001 at her home. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, November 26 at Trinity Lutheran Church, St. Joseph with Rev. Jon Bendewald and Rev. Barry Sommerfield officiating. Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens, Coloma. Friends may call on Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Bethesda Lutheran Home, or Hospice at Home. Mrs. Pavlides was born in St. Joseph on July 9, 1923 to Wilhelm & Martha (Riemland) Schmidt. On September 26, 1943 she married Homer Pavlides at Trinity Lutheran Church in St. Joseph. Together they owned and operated The Country Store in Fairplain from 1949-1964. Elsie then worked in Real Estate Sales for many years. She was a life-long member of Trinity Lutheran Church in St. Joseph, a member of Trinity Ladies Aid, a member of the former Fairplain Garden Club, and a former member of the Toastmistress International. She was a member and former officer of the St. Joseph Kickers Club, and had served on the Board of Directors of the St. Joseph-Lincoln Senior Center in St. Joseph. Elsie volunteered at Lakeland Continuing Care Center in St. Joseph, and made lap robes & bibs for Bethesda Lutheran Home and the Lutheran Home in Crown Point, IN. Elsie loved gardening. She sold the vegetables & flowers she grew at a roadside stand at her home & donated the proceeds to charity. Elsie is survived by two sons-Michael (Paulette) Pavlides of Upland, CA; Howard Pavlides of Stevensville; two granddaughters-Annette Pavlides & Cherie(Todd) Korn; two great-grandchildren-Justin Umberger & Brooke Korn; a brother-Wilhelm (Darice) Schmidt of Bridgman; a sister-Betty (Glenn) Mulholland of Munster, IN and a sister-in-law-Beverly Banyon of Benton Harbor. She was preceded in death by her husband Homer on October 17, 1995, and two brothers-Albert & Arnold Schmidt.
