Roy's Obituary
ST. JOSEPH — Roy E. Moore, Jr., 66, of Amherst, N.H.,
formerly of St. Joseph, passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2002,
at Deaconess Hospital in Oklahoma City.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 9:00am,
Saturday, July 6, at Chrust Lutheran Church in Stevensville,
with Rev. Dr. Eugene Krentz officiating. Military rites and the
burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph.
Visitation will be held from 3-5pm and from 7-9pm, Friday,
July 5, at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650
Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Memorials will be held in Canaan,
N.Y., and Amherst, N.H., at a later date. Memorial
contributions may be made to the family.
Roy was born on May 12, 1936, in Pittsfield, Mass., the son
of Roy E. Moore, Sr. and May Frances (Dexter) Moore. He
graduated from Duke University with a degree in Air Science
and Sociology. Upon his graduation, he served as a Captain
for the United States Air Force with the Strategic Air
Command. Following his honorable discharge from the Air
Force in 1963, he was assistant vice-president of NCNB
(previously Exchange National Bank) until 1966. He
continued his love of flying as a Captain for Eastern Air Lines
Inc., spanning nearly 30 years of dedicated employment and
service. As a well respected and recognized captain with
Eastern Air Lines, he was asked to develop a comprehensive
self-study manual displaying his proficient and extensive
knowledge of his trade. He continued his prestigious career in
flying via his employment at Express One International as an
instructor in pilot training in Dallas, Texas. During the final
year of his decorated professional life, he was employed with
the Federal Aviation Association (FAA) as an aviation safety
inspector in the Flight Standards District Office in Memphis,
Tenn. He received an award for his distinguished services
during the crisis of September 11, 2001.
Mr. Moore enjoyed nature, academia (particularly history and
family lineage) creative artistry and gardening. His passion
for flying was unparalled. He gave his entire life for the good
of others, a true model citizen and humanitarian. His dear love
for God, his family, his country, friends, colleagues and work
was ever present and fully expressed in every aspect of his
daily life.
He is remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father,
brother, grandfather, friend and colleague.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon (Nuechterlein); three
children ? Brian, Kevin and Sarah Moore of Amherst, N.H.;
two sisters, Jean (Moore) Moiseichik of Hector, N.Y. and
Betsy (Moore) Bither of Canaan, N.Y.; his daughter, Melissa
(Moore) Guinn and grandchildren, Dennis Guinn, Jr. and
Brittany Guinn of Haines City, FL; and several aunts, uncles,
cousins, nieces and nephews.
Roy was preceded in death by his father, Roy E. Moore, Sr.
and his mother, May Frances.
