Clyde's Obituary

Clyde H. Carlson, 86, of St. Joseph, passed away Thursday, February 14, 2002 at Golden Place, St. Joseph. A celebration of life service will be held at 10:00 AM Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, St. Joseph with Rev. Jon Bendewald officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday from 2-5 PM at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or the Michigan Heart Association. Mr. Carlson was born on August 12, 1915 in Hungerford, Michigan to Albin & Freda (Carlson) Carlson. He graduated from Big Rapids High School and was employed by Whirlpool Corporation for 42 years retiring in 1979. Clyde served in the Army Air Corp. during WWII in North Africa with the 8th Air Depo Group. On September 15, 1945 he married Eva Dass in West Palm Beach, Florida. Mr. Carlson was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church-St. Joseph and was a devoted husband, brother, father, grandfather, and neighbor. A great joy in his life was helping others. Mr. Carlson is survived by his wife Eva; four sons-Stephen (Luana) Carlson of DeWitt, MI, Thomas (Marge) Carlson of Ludington, MI, Douglas (Beverly) Carlson of Mount Vernon, IL, and Dennis Carlson of Wyoming, MI; a brother-Arthur Carlson of St. Joseph; a sister-Mable Atkins of Pasadena, CA; six grandchildren-Stephanie, Andrea, Matthew, Scott, John, & Bryan; and numerous nephews & nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister-Thelma Watt.
